Assessment: Intercultural Development Consulting offers individual and/or group assessment of intercultural competence using the Intercultural Development Inventory. This tool is based on the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity developed by Dr. Milton Bennett. It measures an individual’s or organization’s current strategy for addressing cultural difference. Individual and group feedback sessions help clients identify their current position on the developmental continuum and offer next steps for continued growth.
Training: Our consultants work with clients to develop an individualized training program that targets the client’s specific needs and desired outcomes. Training may include topics such as an overview of the various stages of intercultural development, instruction in basic cultural building blocks and cultural distinctives, a discussion of the diverse experiences of immigrants, an analysis of the interaction between culture and race, or advanced training in perspective taking and worldview formation.
Coaching: Coaching is available for individuals and small groups. Coaching sessions provide clients with individual attention and offer a chance to apply new skills to real life situations. Coaching sessions can include case studies, targeted study of specific cultures, discussion of ongoing intercultural challenges facing clients, and community-based intercultural experiences.
Evaluation: Evaluation remains a critical component throughout the consultation and training process. At the end of the formal training and coaching program, clients are given the option of retaking the Intercultural Development Inventory to determine progress and to aid in the creation of an ongoing growth plan. In addition, consultants offer evaluation of the client’s intercultural sensitivity as expressed in their publications, protocols, policies, and curriculum.
